Rum is a brandy produced in many parts of the world and is derived from sugar cane. From this, different raw materials are extracted which will allow, after being fermented and distilled, to create different types of rums. Among these raw materials, we find the fresh cane juice, also called vesou, as well as molasses, which is a residue of sugar refining. The vesou is used to make rums called "rhums agricoles", characteristic of the French style "rhums". Whereas molasses and syrups from sugar production are used to make rums called "traditional rums", characteristic of English-style rums and Hispanic-style rons.
