The winemaker

Luis Cañas Vignobles is a family-owned producer that dates back to 1928, although the family has been in the viticulture and winemaking business for over two centuries. However, it was in 1970 that LUIS CAÑAS began marketing their young wines. It was from this moment that sales increased and the seeds of what is today one of the leading vineyards in the Rioja Alavesa Region were sown. 1989 was another milestone in the winery's transformation when Juan Luis Cañas, only son Luis Cañas de, took over. At the age of 33, he brought a new atmosphere to the winery and began making new wines, strengthening the Crianza wines more and more while beginning to sketch out what was to become the new winery. In 1994, the company opened a new winery equipped with the very best winemaking systems. The winery produces mainly top-quality Crianza and Reserva wines. The new winery was complemented by subsequent expansions such as another wine region which began with the 1998 harvest and a new barrel cellar in 1999, where 2,000 new barrels are stored totalling 4,300 barrels. In 1999, social services were inaugurated. The result are quality wines that are contrasted and supported by their ever-increasing market share and loyal clientele, as well as for their prestigious national and international awards and mentions in the world's most important tastings and competitions.
