The winemaker

The first vines were planted in the 13th century. The monk San Pedro de Villacreces took over the estate a century later, giving it its name. The site then became a monastery, with only small plots dedicated to wine production for the sole consumption of the surrounding monks and monasteries. In 2004, brothers Gonzalo and Lalo Anton, already owners of the Izadi, Vetus and Orben estates, acquired the property. After carrying out a number of restorations, they relaunched the estate in 2007, resulting in the vintages we know today. Today, 85% of the estate's 64 hectares are planted with Tempranillo, 10% with Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% with Merlot. Winemakers Angel Ortega and Luis Laso are committed to sustainable agriculture, using only natural treatments. The Pruno cuvée stood out when the famous wine taster Robert Parker declared it the best Spanish wine for under €20. The wines are aged for 12 to 14 months in new or used wood, depending on the cuvée. Fleshy, ripe fruit gives them great depth and intensity.
