Alvaro Palacios, "the most sensational winemaker of Spain" by Wine Spectator, created this area in 1989 near Gratallops. After his oenology studies in Bordeaux, he was supposed to return to the family estate in Rioja but against the wishes of his father, he decided to try his luck in the Priorat region so little prized for wine, and very difficult to access because of its steep slopes. Its dynamism advantage of its vineyards, as well as the entire region, as the wines were rewarded throughout his career. A true pioneer, it is with patience and passion that revolutionized the Spanish wine scene.
