In a few words ...

The brand, conceived at the beginning of the 20th century when the vines were planted, originated in the small clos adjoining the château de léoville, home of the marquis de las cases. Clos du marquis is a historic vineyard of the delon estates, separated from the léoville las cases vineyard, 1902 being the first vintage. at the time, the creation of this brand was intended to identify two different terroirs. Today, the vineyards producing Clos du Marquis are located on the great terroirs of the St Julien appellation, surrounded by prestigious crus classés such as Léoville Poyferré and Léoville Barton. The Clos du Marquis terroir lies 500 meters west of the Léoville Las Cases enclosure. It is composed of Quaternary gravel, older and finer than that of the enclosure. The 45-hectare vineyard has an average age of 30 years. The significant presence of organic matter on the surface, due to the history of forestry, gives Clos du Marquis its typical Saint Julien character. It takes longer for the grapes to ripen than Clos du Marquis, which benefits from the warmer temperatures brought on by the sun.
