In the 17th century, the village took its name from Saint Joseph; but during the French Revolution, all communes and localities bearing Saint's names were renamed. It was then that Saint Joseph temporarily took the name "Roquebrussane", meaning "brown rock", symbolizing this unique terroir of burnt rock. With "Roquebrussane", Maison Bouachon pays tribute to this soil, which gives the wines mineral notes of "pierre à fusil".
