The rivesaltes aoc covers an area of 5180 hectares planted with grenache noir for the reds and grenache blanc, grenache gris and macabeu. The name means "high banks" in Catalan. The vineyards cover a surface area of 5180 hectares on terraces and hills crossed by 3 rivers. There are 4 different types of rivesaltes. Amber rivesaltes are aged for 2 years in an oxidative environment. They have a golden color and aromas of hazelnut and almond. Red Rivesaltes (75% Grenache) have a ruby color and red fruit aromas. They are kept for 12 months, including 3 in bottle. Rivesaltes tuilés (50% Grenache) are aged in large containers in contact with ai for 2 years. Their color is tiled with brown highlights. They offer aromas of coffee, candied fruit and cocoa. Lastly, the rivesaltes hors d'âge have been aged for at least 5 years.
The 1999 vintage was shaping up to be a good one, with both quality and quantity. But once again, a violent storm on September 5 wiped out 10% of St Emilion. The situation in the other appellations was no better, but the winemakers were able to save the ripe grapes thanks to the September sunshine. The winemaker's hard work will be recognized by the wine's structure.

Aroma
aromas of very ripe red berries: raspberry jam, blackberry notes.
