One of the pioneers of "natural" wines in France, the domaine has been organic since 1970. With the help of his wife Chantal and son Thomas, Jean Pierre Frick vinifies a large proportion of his cuvées without sulfur. His practice of maceration is the house signature. This style is particularly suited to the Grand Cru Vorbourg, a soil dominated by marl, limestone and sandstone. Since 2002, all wines have been bottled in stainless steel capsules. Domaine Pierre Frick's pinot noir rot murlé comes from vines planted on brown, ferruginous limestone soil on a hard limestone slab, at the top of a hill jutting out into the plain. The grapes are macerated and fermented with indigenous yeasts for 10 days, without destemming, to extract color and tannins. They are then pressed. No sulfites are added, either to the juice or during the 7-month ageing period in oak barrels. The nose of this wine reveals incredible notes of violets, wild blackberries, black cherries, leather and a hint of sweet spices. The palate is elegant and silky, with delicious aromas of candied red berries. A great wine!
