In a few words ...

"Soil: Gunzian Garonne gravel on a clay-limestone substrate. Vinification: traditional, in concrete vats. Parcel selection. Wine certified organic in 2019. Biodynamic certification in progress. Ageing: 40% new French oak barrels. Aged 16 months. Characteristic of 2019 January was the only cold month of the winter, while February saw mild temperatures, some of the highest in 20 years. Cool spring temperatures slowed the mineralization of soil organic matter. The vines budded early but grew slowly. These conditions were also unfavorable for flowering, which was exacerbated by heavy rainfall. On the other hand, the cool temperatures kept down the virulence of mildew. The first day of summer marked a meteorological turning point, leading to a hot, dry summer. There were several heatwaves, with a risk of water shortage. Fortunately, beneficial rainfall accelerated veraison and maintained phenological homogeneity. Night-time temperatures in August were below average and favored the early development of the grapes' aromatic palette and a particularly high anthocyanin load. At the end of ripening, the concentration of sugars induced by the moderate water deficit meant that the Merlot grapes could be harvested as early as the third week of September. The grapes harvested were perfectly ripe. Alcohol levels were slightly above average. There is good acid balance and a richness of tannins and aromas that are very interesting for the wine's taste balance. The in-depth biodynamic agronomic work carried out in the vineyards to optimize the balance of the vines and the buffering capacity of the soils is proving to be fundamental to the successful management of the most severe weather episodes".
