In a few words ...

In Chavignol, the Boulays have one of the finest terroirs in the village, Clos de Beaujeu. This parcel, with its 70% slope, lies in the culs de beaujeu sector, facing east/south-east, while the monts damnés parcel, which shares the same chalky soil, faces due south. This east-facing exposure lends a rare elegance and refinement to the Sauvignons, which only come into their own after five years. Over twenty years, they evolve towards white truffle aromas. The wines are full-bodied and generous, with exemplary concentration for ageing, in particular the very pure Comtesse and the admirable Oriane red, capable of dazzling over twenty years of age. Domaine Gérard Boulay's Cuvée Oriane comes from a parcel planted on the Cheneau hillside facing Clos de Beaujeu and Graveron, next to Mont Damnés, where Pinot Noir has reigned supreme since the Middle Ages. The harvest, entirely destemmed, is left to infuse for a long time before being aged for several months in barrels, 50% of which are new.
