Cru Morgon is located on the hills of the Villié Morgon commune in northern Beaujolais. The climate is continental, and the small plots from which this wine comes benefit from a southeasterly exposure overlooking the Saône valley. At an altitude of 200-300m, these 50-year-old vines thrive on subsoils of iron-oxide-rich "roche pourrie" and schist. Hand-harvested, sorted and partially de-stemmed. Fermentation in cement vats for up to 15/18 days, with punching down and pumping over.
Appearance
Attractive, deep garnet-red color.
Aroma
The particular soil gives Morgon its characteristic aromas of ripe stone fruit, notably cherry, as well as hints of nutmeg, star anise and coffee.
Wine Fruity
Taste
A complex, well-balanced wine with velvety tannins on the finish. Beaujolais crus are wines of character and fruit.
