Marc Pesnot is one of the few winemakers in the Muscadet region to produce a 100% natural wine. Given that this appellation is one of the most restrictive in France, prohibiting malolactic fermentation and with a fairly high minimum yield, it's only natural that this winegrower from Nantes should produce his own wines under the vin de france label. His wines are a target for export, particularly t... o Japan. These products are 80% sold out before they even reach the market. At his winery, domaine de la sénéchalière, marc takes a very particular approach to oenology. With more stringent admission requirements than those suggested by organic and biodynamic agriculture, as he himself puts it, "we pick the grapes and turn them naturally into wine: it's as simple as that". The key to success is to pick the perfect, flawless grape, even if this means a much lower yield.
