In the Menetou-Salon appellation, in the center of the Loire Valley, on sedimentary Kimmeridgian terroirs, Domaine Philippe Gilbert produces fresh, elegant wines from Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Handcrafted according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. The tradition dates back to the reign of louis xv, when françois gilbert took over his father-in-law's vineyards, and continues today with philippe, who converted the 30 hectares to organic and biodynamic farming in the mid-2000s. The estate asserts and enhances the artisanal nature of its production. It's a family affair, but above all it's a people affair. The vines are planted on the best slopes, in a relatively narrow band of about 5 km, stretching some 25 km from the north of Bourges (Pigny) to the edge of the Sancerre appellation (Humbligny). The Kimmeridgian, found in Champagne and Chablis, ends its course a little further along, at the border of the Reuilly appellation. It is easily identified by the presence of "hen's ears", the name given here to thousands of small oyster shells.
Appearance
Its color is a light red.
Aroma
Expressive on the nose, it begins with notes of red fruits (strawberries, cherries), then opens up to aromas of wild berries. The whole is then supported by floral notes.
Wine Floral | Fruity
Taste
A supple attack on the palate. The light tannic structure harmonizes well with the freshness of the mid-palate. Hints of praline add interesting length.
