Created in 1880, Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes is a legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine. The story begins when Edouard Amouroux, through his marriage, receives the famous parcel of Syrah vines located in the Tresquoy area. The property owes its name to the Oratory dedicated to Saint-Marc that stands on the edge of the plot. The high quality of this terroir quickly enabled this wine to become a benchmark for the appellation. About the 2017 vintage: "Lovely fruit, velvety, greedy and balanced" (Bettane et Desseauve)
Appearance
The color is typical of the vintage, with Grenache noir showing little color. The 8% Syrah in the blend brings bluish hues that support this light but frank color.
Aroma
The nose fully expresses the aromas of its youth, burlat cherry, fig, but also sweet spices such as nutmeg and more complex notes (cocoa, morello cherry).
