In a few words ...

The Côte Roannaise appellation stretches across the foothills of the Massif Central, between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. The vineyards are planted on sandy soils of granite origin. The local red grape variety is Gamay Saint-Romain, found only here. The white, in igp d'urfé, comes from chardonnay, sometimes pinot gris. Georges paire, from a farming family, began planting his vineyard in the 1970s. In 2005, his son Romain joined him and the planting continued, the winery was modernized and the estate turned to organic farming. Today, the estate still keeps a small herd of Limousin cows. We appreciate these carefully-crafted, sincere wines: a modern, dynamic incarnation of the appellation. Domaine des Pothiers' Cuvée La Chapelle comes from a 4-hectare parcel of Gamay Saint-Romain vines planted on granitic soils on a hilltop 520m above sea level. Hand-harvested, sorted on the vine. 11 months in truncated wooden vats and foudres. The nose reveals delicious notes of crisp red fruits, wild strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and sweet spices. The palate is full and silky.
