"the aoc saint-émilion-grand-cru covers the same geographical area as saint-emilion and is located in the libournais region on the right bank of the dordogne river. To qualify for the grand cru label, production conditions are stricter than those for the saint-emilion aoc: yields are limited to 40hl/ha and the wine must be aged for 12 months. The appellation covers 4,030 ha of limestone, clay-silt and sandy soils. Merlot dominates the AOC's blends, but Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also vinified. Saint-émilion-grand-cru produces 150,291 hl of red wine each year.2015 bordeaux vintage:the 2015 bordeaux vintage is considered by leading wine tasters around the world to be very good, especially in comparison with the two previous, less promising vintages. Some are even calling it an "exceptional" year. Indeed, 2015 brought excellent ripening conditions and ideal weather. "This vintage follows in the footsteps of the great 2005s, 2009s and 2010s, producing silky, crisp reds with lots of fruit and elegance," Stéphane Toutoundji, an oenologist specializing in advising winegrowing estates, told AFP.
