In a few words ...

Intensely fruity with notes of blackcurrant and wild cherry. Full-bodied with fabulous tannic structure. The terroir is predominantly limestone and rocky, with a predominantly southerly exposure. The grapes were harvested in early September 2009. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 30-31°c. The wine was aged in Allier oak barrels and barriques, then in bottles, for a total of 42 months. castello di cacchiano is located in the heart of the Chianti region and was founded in the 10th century by the Ricasoli family, a noble family of Lombardy origin. It has been in the family for over 1000 years. Today, giovanni ricasoli-firidolfi farms around 31 hectares in the monti production zone in gaiole, near siena, at altitudes between 380 and 420 meters above sea level, on fertile soils that are predominantly calcareous, medium-heavy and rocky, and mostly south-facing. Planting density per hectare varies from 3,300 vines/ha in older installations dating from the early 1970s to 5,000-9,000 vines/ha in more recent plots planted in the 1990s and 2000s. Giovanni ricasoli-firidolfi describes his winegrowing philosophy with an identity, commitment and heart for the unique terroir and microclimate, the vines and, above all, the family tradition that has been rooted in this region for so long.
