Agripunica - barrua 2014agripunica (spa agricola punica) is an estate based in Sardinia, formed as a joint venture between the Sardinian cooperative cantina di santadi and tenuta san guido, the producer of one of Italy's most famous wines, sassacaia. It produces two red wines made from carignano grapes and a single white wine.the company was launched in 2002, after the famous italian winemaker giacomo tachis became interested in sardinia and persuaded the sassacaia winemaker sebastiano rosa to buy land there. In collaboration with cantine santadi, rosa bought two estates, barrua and narcao, in south-western sardinia.the properties belong to the carignano del sulcis doc zone. However, the wines are made under the isola dei nuraghi igt to give more blending options.barrua is agripunica's flagship primo wine, composed of 85% carignano, with a little cabernet sauvignon and merlot. It is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Typically, the wine combines ripe red fruit with aromas of herbs and spices.Punica's other red wine, montessu, is also based on carignano. However, it is blended with higher percentages of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and cabernet franc.
