The winemaker

Weingut Pauly is located in Lieser, just upstream from Bernkastel on the Moselle. It's a typical Moselle family estate, covering 5.5 hectares, which has been in the hands of three generations. The father, Rudolf Pauly, vinified 60 vintages before handing over to his son Axel in 2004. After studying in Geisenheim, Axel gained experience around the world before returning to the family estate. Since his arrival, the style of the wines has evolved towards greater freshness and finesse in the fruit. The Paulys own vineyards in the Einzellagen of Niederberg-Helden, Schlossberg and Kardinalsberg. In addition to Riesling, they cultivate a few plots planted with Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. Depending on the wine, wooden tuns or stainless steel vats are used, with long fermentations in cool cellars and extended stays on fine lees. Axel Pauly's Rieslings are a fine evocation of the Moselle style: brightness, aromatic intensity, lightness and precision.
