Characteristics of Alain Brumont's terroir and vineyard
Alain Brumont's estates are located on the borders of three départements: Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The vines are grown on clay-limestone soils. Two wines typical of the South-West are produced here: a red wine, Madiran, and a white wine, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh. The grape varieties used are typical of the South-West: Petit and Gros Manseng for the white. Tannat is the emblematic red variety of Madiran.
The wines of Domaine Alain Brumont
Château Bouscassé sells Madiran and sweet Pacherenc. Château Montus sells Madiran and dry Pacherenc. Château Montus Madiran wines are a benchmark in the appellation. Some of the finest cuvées, such as La Tyre, are made using only Tannat grapes. Château Bouscassé makes Madiran with a combination of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, such as the cuvée Argile Rouge. Pacherenc such as Larmes Célestes are sweet, syrupy wines that go well with foie gras from the South-West.
