The winemaker
An estate with a rich history
Located in Lavaur, in southwestern France, the Domaine d'En Ségur vineyard was one of the first stones of the French wine-making adventure. Ideally located on the banks of the Tarn and close to the places where amphoras and wine vases were made, it was one of the first wine export centers in the world, as early as the 2nd century. However, it was during the Middle Ages that the cultivation of the vine really took off, notably thanks to the Benedictines who settled in the region. The wines of the region acquired a certain notoriety in England and the Netherlands, but in the 19th century, phylloxera wreaked havoc and the reconstruction of the vineyard took time.
It is only after the Second World War that the vineyard of the Tarn finds its letters of nobility thanks to the recognition of the appellation Côtes du Tarn. The Domaine d'En Ségur as it exists today was born in 1989 at the hands of its founder Pierre Fabre. He undertook to modernize the vineyard and the production apparatus to ensure quality yields and wines of the same standing. In 2004, Caroline Schaller took over the reins of the estate and continued the founder's quest for excellence.
Today it is Lionel Barre, at the head of the estate since 2017, who is doing everything possible to accomplish this. This estate with its rich past therefore has many fine days ahead of it.
A privileged and authentic terroir
Spread over 36 hectares, the estate is planted with red and white grape varieties. The Domaine d'En Ségur also cultivates a lesser-known indigenous grape variety, Duras, which perfectly reflects the typicity of the wines of the Tarn and its terroir. Planted on sandy-clay and gravel soils, the berries will sometimes give fresh and very fruity wines, sometimes more concentrated and deep wines. Finally, located halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, the estate benefits from the oceanic and Mediterranean influences that regulate the high temperatures of the South of France.
Wines decorated with medals
Vinifying red, rosé and white wines, Domaine d'En Segur offers a wide range of choices to its enthusiasts. The property's cellars are designed to promote the interaction of the wine with its environment at each stage of the process. Its aging cellar is equipped with high quality barrels that offer the wines ideal aging prospects. The efforts put in place by the technical team of the house are bearing fruit in view of the numerous awards that the wines of the domain amass each year during national and international competitions such as the Concours Général Agricole or the Mondial du Rosé.
