The winemaker
The Cosse-Maisonneuve estate imagined by two childhood friends
In 1999, Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve created Domaine Cosse-Maisonneuve. He is a qualified oenologist and former rugby player. She is a passionate and visionary oenologist. These childhood friends have both worked with great houses. They easily spotted the promising potential of the Cahors terroir. Having no particular attachment to the region, they nevertheless decided to buy the estate. Year after year, they contributed to the renown of an appellation that had previously been in the shadow of its Bordeaux neighbors.
At Domaine Cosse-Maisonneuve, working the terroir is guided by passion and precision
The Cosse-Maisonneuve duo has expanded the estate to 28 hectares. The main grape variety grown is, of course, Malbec. The estate plays an important role in raising the profile of this typical Cahors grape variety. It is complemented by merlot, gamay and cabernet franc. The two winemakers feel a particular attachment to the latter and have dedicated several cuvées to it.
The vines are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics and respect for nature. The grapes are harvested by hand, with low yields. Slow ripening allows the grapes to develop their full personality. Precise vinification is based on a perfect knowledge of the terroirs.
The Cosse-Maisonneuve estate shakes up the habits of Cahors wines
The domaine produces wines that are surprising for the region. Cuvée after cuvée, the Cahors is fine and elegant. Structure and balance are impeccable. Almost all the bottles have a high ageing potential. Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve have a talent for analyzing their land and unearthing exceptional parcels. Their 100% Malbec cuvée la Marguerite and the more recent 100% Cabernet Franc cuvée Sidérolithe are fine examples of their perfect mastery of the art of winemaking.
