Domaine Capmartin
(1 customer reviews)
The Capmartin estate is atypical in its location. The estate is planted on the limestone bedrock of an 18th-century quarry. The soils surrounding the estate represent a mosaic as rare as it is remarkable. Since 2000, the Capmartin estate has been committed to organic viticulture, and continues to amaze an ever-growing number of tasters. Find out more

The winemaker
Domaine Capmartin is located in a former convent in the Gers department. Since the 2000s, the winegrowers have been keen to find a balance with their environment. With this in mind, the estate obtained Organic Agriculture certification in 2013.
Its past is only very recent, since it was an ambitious man by the name of Guy Capmartin who decided to create his estate. Having honed his skills on the family estate a few years earlier, he embarked on his winegrowing adventure in 1985. Two years were enough for him to create his first cuvée under the name of "Tradition".
It wasn't long before the quality of his wines was recognized in Madiran and his reputation soared. He was able to adapt to the way Madiran wines were now produced. At the time, the appellation's producers were export-oriented, making powerful, generous wines. In the image of Guy Capmartin, Madiran wines have evolved to reveal finesse and elegance, even if the wines remain well-structured.
He also took part in the adventure of organic farming, which he initiated in the early 2000s. The AB label is proof of all these efforts, and allows our protagonist to claim that his work is done with care, respecting the needs of both vine and soil.
This 16-hectare estate produces around 65,000 bottles per vintage, including reds of course, but also whites. To achieve this, several grape varieties have been chosen for their ability to merge with this unique terroir. For reds, tannat is the main grape variety (60% of the surface area), followed by cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon (15% each), and finally fer servadou (10%). Only 2.5 hectares are planted with white varieties (gros manseng, petit manseng and arrufiac). The red wines, designed for ageing, are concentrated, powerful and fruity. AOC Pacherenc de Vic-Bilh white wines are light, with floral and citrus notes...
The wines produced at Domaine Capmartin reflect the diversity of our grape varieties and the richness of our terroirs. Each vineyard parcel is vinified separately. As a result, each wine has its own identity. The wines are divided into several ranges: IGP Côtes de Gascogne, Vins de France, AOP Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh and AOC Madiran. The grape varieties grown for their production are Tannat, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Petit Courbu, Gros-Manseng, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Gris, Syrah, Merlot and Malbec.
