The winemaker
Château Tour des Gendres is an estate in southwestern France. It lies on the outskirts of Bergerac, to the east of Bordeaux. With its rich family history, the estate is in the hands of passionate winemakers, and the wines are as generous as they are generous. The region's unique terroir enables the creation of one-of-a-kind cuvées that are the pride of their winemakers.
The story of Château Tour des Gendres is not an insignificant one. Indeed, the De Conti family, who have been on the estate since 1925, are Italian. It was Vincenzo de Conti who settled here at the beginning of the 20th century, accompanied by his wife and children. This was the beginning of an agricultural epic for the family. Vincenzo's son Primo took over the estate alongside his wife, and it was in the 1980s that the Château Tour des Gendres estate really took off under the impetus of Luc, the third generation. In 1984, the first replanting of the vineyard began, and it was thanks to this that the first Château Tour des Gendres red wine saw the light of day in 1986.
The company gradually extended its range of wines, without ceasing to innovate in winemaking techniques. Indeed, the first trials in organic farming were carried out in 1994, leading to the certification of the estate's 52 hectares in 2005. Other fruitful experiments have also been carried out on the estate, such as the production of cuvées without sulfur or aged in amphorae. Forward-thinking, committed winemakers, there's no doubt that the De Conti family still has a long way to go!
Very attached to the notion of terroir, the De Conti family has taken great care to preserve its working environment and give free rein to the symbiosis of the various elements that make up said terroir. From soil to exposure, climate, grape varieties and the work of man, nothing is left to chance. This is one of the reasons why, in 1999, Luc commissioned various organizations to carry out a geological study of the estate, in order to gain a better understanding of the ecosystem in which his vines grow. From this, the grape varieties were adapted to take advantage of the best characteristics of the soils and reveal the finest aromas in the grapes. The vines are also tended in such a way as to limit yields and promote the concentration of flavors. Finally, once in the cellar, oenological interventions are meticulous and carried out sparingly to give the wine time and space to reveal its finest secrets.
Château Tour des Gendres offers enthusiasts a wide range of wines, from red to white to sparkling. Most are vinified according to the specifications of the Bergerac and Côtes de Bergerac appellations. The variety of their cuvées allows you to explore the diversity of their terroir to suit all tastes: full-bodied or light, fruity or spicy, fresh or structured, every taste bud will be satisfied!
