The winemaker
A little family history
The Château Terre Vieille vineyard was acquired in 1989 by Gérôme and Dolores Morand-Monteil, who planted the first vines. It was on land that had once belonged to the philosopher Maine de Biran that the estate was born. The beginnings were difficult, particularly with the severe frost in 1991 that sabotaged the harvest initially destined to become Château Terre Vieille's first vintage.
But here we are in 1992! The first wine was born and marketed under the Côtes de Bergerac appellation. Indeed, it wasn't until 1994 that the first cuvée labelled AOC Pécharmant arrived. However, it was only the first in a series of cuvées that were to enjoy the same success as their big sister. Four children were born to Gérôme and Dolores, and each in turn helped to develop the estate.
Today, Pierre, the family's first son, leads the estate and continues his parents' work.
A charming terroir enhanced by its winemakers
The vineyards of Château Terre Vieille are divided into a dozen parcels in the Pécharmant appellation. Each one therefore benefits from a different biodiversity and varied terroirs, making for the richness of the blends subsequently created by the winemakers. The soil is predominantly composed of silica and clay, and its particularity lies in the presence of flint, which gives an atypical profile to the house wines.
The distribution of the vineyard plots means that each parcel of land requires special care, which varies from plot to plot. All work around the vines is done by hand, to respect the environment that surrounds and nourishes them. This is one of the reasons why the estate has obtained Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification, attesting to its commitment and responsible approach to vineyard management and wine-making.
Cuvées marked by roundness
The wines of Château Terre Vieille are marked by roundness, yet they are no less powerful. They are full of character, as evidenced by their excellent ageing potential, thanks in particular to their ageing in oak barrels.
5 cuvées adorn the Morand-Monteil family coat of arms and are its pride and joy:
Its first wine bears the name of the house and is a perfect match for any type of rich meat or cheese platter, thanks to its strength and elegance. The eponymous cuvée is followed by Divin, which was later declined in rosé and reveals more lightness with red fruit aromas. The range is completed by Chevalier and Ambroisie, two additional cuvées that will equally delight the taste buds of wine lovers.
