The winemaker
A little family history
The vineyard of Château Terre Vieille was acquired in 1989 by Gérôme and Dolores Morand-Monteil who planted the first vines. It was on land that had belonged to the philosopher Maine de Biran that the estate was born. The beginnings were difficult, especially with the severe frost in 1991 which sabotaged the harvest initially destined to become the first vintage of Château Terre Vieille.
In 1992, here we are! The first wine was born and marketed under the Côtes de Bergerac appellation. Indeed, it is only in 1994 that the first wine labeled AOC Pécharmant made its arrival. However, it is only the first of a series of cuvées of the house which will win the same success as their big sister. Four children were born from the union of Gérôme and Dolores, and each in turn has put his hand to the task of developing the estate.
Today it is Pierre, the first son of the family who leads the estate and continues the work of his parents.
A charming terroir enhanced by its winemakers
The vineyard of Château Terre Vieille is divided into a dozen parcels in the Pécharmant appellation. Each one benefits from a different biodiversity and varied terroirs which make the richness of the blends created by the winegrowers. The soil is mostly composed of silica and clay and its particularity lies in the presence of flint which gives an atypical profile to the house wines.
The distribution of the plots of land requires a very particular attention to each piece of land to give it the care it needs and which varies from one plot to another. All the work around the vine is done manually in order to respect the environment that surrounds the vine and nourishes it. This is notably how the estate obtained the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, which attests to its commitment and responsible approach in the management of the vineyard and in the elaboration of the wines.
Cuvées marked by roundness
Marked by roundness, the wines of Château Terre Vieille are no less powerful. They have great character, as shown by their excellent ageing potential, thanks in particular to their ageing in oak barrels.
5 vintages adorn the coat of arms of the Morand-Monteil family and are its pride:
Its first wine bears the name of the house and goes wonderfully with any type of rich meat or with a cheese platter thanks to its strength and elegance. The eponymous cuvée is followed by Divin, which was then declined in rosé and reveals more lightness with red fruit aromas. The range is completed with Chevalier and Ambroisie, two additional cuvées that will delight the taste buds of wine lovers.
