The winemaker
The winery
The estate lies in the heart of the Cahors vineyards on the terraces of the Lot Valley and on the plateaus of the Causse. The vines are planted on soils composed of silt, red clay, pebbles, silica and limestone. They benefit from plenty of sunshine and flourish on this great terroir. The king grape variety of the Cahors appellation, Malbec, is in the majority in the Château Eugénie vineyard. Tannat and Merlot complete the blend. The estate's blends produce wines with a strong identity and great authenticity.
The Couture family has been committed to a global approach aimed at preserving the environment for several years and obtained High Environmental Value certification in 2014. The estate is run according to the label's extremely demanding specifications and the principles of committed, sustainable viticulture. The practices implemented aim to protect biodiversity, notably by preserving natural areas within the vineyard lands. The family practices row grassing. Leguminous plants have been planted in the plots, preserving the wild areas around the property.
Skills
The vines are cared for with the utmost rigor, and each plot is harvested individually, at perfect ripeness, according to the development of each grape variety. The batches are then vinified separately. Each plot is also aged separately, in barrels or vats, depending on the cuvée. In this way, each batch develops its own unique character.
