The winemaker

The history of Château de Terride

Château de Terride is a former family estate belonging to the Terride family. Set in the middle of a forest, it was used as a hunting lodge and was used for hunting à courre.

As the men of the family had faithfully served Saint Louis during the Crusades, the King granted them the right to become Master Glassmakers. The family kept this prestigious occupation until the French Revolution, in the adjoining state-owned forest of Grésigne.

Château de Terride subsequently had a number of owners, and was transformed into a winery in the 1960s. In 1996, Jean-Paul and Solange David, from former Gaillac winegrowing families, fell in love with the estate and decided to buy it.

They have been working on it ever since, with the help of their daughter, Alix, and her husband Romain, a metal artist. As a result, Château de Terride has been extensively restored and the vineyard restructured.

The Château de Terride vineyard

The Château de Terride vineyard is unique and rather unusual, as it's located in the middle of the woods, in the heart of a breathtaking panorama. It is also very out of the way from the rest of the Gaillac vineyards. It's just a stone's throw from Puycelsi, a splendid fortified village from the High Middle Ages, and not far from Bruniquel, where the film Le Vieux fusil was shot.

Château de Terride's vineyards are managed in harmony with nature. Chemical treatments have been eliminated in favor of natural fertilization. Given its location, it is essential not to interfere with the particularly rich biodiversity and fauna. Thanks to hard work on the methods used, Château de Terride has been awarded the HVE (High Environmental Value) classification.
