Since 1980, Château Bouscassé has been home to the finest wines from the South-West. Its winemaker, Alain Brumont, is a wine artisan. He was voted the world's top winemaker, and can be considered a savior of France's winegrowing heritage, particularly when he rehabilitated old terroirs that had been abandoned for 50 years. Château Bouscassé is located in the commune of Maumusson-Laguian, 100 kilometers from any city or industry. Château Bouscassé offers 4 exceptional cuvées Bouscassé, Les Vieilles Vignes, Argile Rouge and Les Menhirs from the Madiran and Parenchec du Vic Bilh appellations or the Côtes de Gascogne. The winemaker
The history of the Château Bouscassé estate
The Château Bouscassé estate is a family property that the Dumont family has owned for many generations. Taken over by Alain Brumont, he decided to make it a world-renowned estate. It was in 1979 that he decided to draw inspiration from Bordeaux winemaking methods, starting to age his wines in small oak barrels. Success came in 1982, when the winemaker made his first wine from three-year-old vines. The result was Madiran, which went on to become a worldwide success.
Characteristics of the Château Bouscassé terroir and vineyard
The Château Bouscassé estate is made up of fifty hectares all planted on an important clay-limestone terroir. Situated at the foot of the Maumusson-Laguian cliff, this terroir is colloquially referred to by connoisseurs as "Le Pied de Côte de Saint-Émilion" (the foot of the Saint-Émilion hillside), due to the Tannat grape which gives the wine characteristics similar to the great wines usually found on the right bank of the city of Bordeaux. As there, Domaine Bouscassé wines have a fine structure, are full of rigor and have long ageing potential.
The wines of Domaine Château Bouscassé
The Château Bouscassé estate produces white and red wines that have restored the Tannat grape to its former glory. Cuvée Menhir is a famous example. This is the estate's most innovative cuvée, combining the velvety smoothness of Merlot and the exuberance of Tannat, with a beautiful dark ruby color and a 10-year ageing potential.
