The winemaker
Soil, climate, grape varieties, winemaking: this combination of natural and human factors gives CHATEAU BELLEVUE LA FORÊT its unique character.
Since its creation in 1974, Château Bellevue La Forêt has won over 250 medals in various national and international competitions, and is regularly cited by the Guide Hachette, Cuisines et Vins de France and Robert Parker, among others...
It is planted on a high terrace composed of alluvium from the Quaternary era and gravel, a poor, stony soil on which the vines suffer, resulting in a perfectly ripe harvest.
The region's hot, dry climate ensures optimal ripening and early harvesting.
The grape varieties are as follows:
- 56.5 ha of Négrette, found nowhere else in the world, brought back from Cyprus by the Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. It's a fine, delicate variety that doesn't like humidity, so the dry Autan wind suits it admirably. A demanding grape variety, it has acclimatized remarkably well to this single Fronton terroir.
It's one of the few grape varieties to reveal in wine - in addition to subtle scents of violet, red fruit, licorice and pepper - aromas identical to those found when crunching fresh grapes. It therefore develops intense aromatic complexity and gives structure, elegance, charm and personality.
- 6 ha of Cabernet Franc, 16 ha of Syrah, 12.5 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 ha of Gamay.
- 2.3 ha of white grape varieties (Viognier, Roussanne and Petit Manseng).
