A MOSAIC OF TERROIRS
We're located in Pomport in the Dordogne (24), right in the middle of the Monbazillac appellation area south of Bergerac, just 50 kilometers east of Saint-Emilion. The estate covers 45 hectares divided into 5 parcels.
25 hectares in Monbazillac, around the estate, with an average planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare and an average vine age of 50 years, for an average yield of 26 hectolitres/hectare. The grape varieties are 85% Semillon and 15% Muscadelle.
9 hectares of red Bergerac, in the communes of Mescoules and Pomport, benefiting from good exposure (east-west) on shallow clay soils with a tendency towards limestone. The average planting density is 3,500 vines/hectare, with an average yield of 50 hectolitres per hectare. The average age of these vines is around 30 years. The grape varieties are 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. In 2011, we planted 70 ares of Malbec as part of our vineyard restructuring program, with the aim of bringing greater complexity to our wines. Part of these red grapes, whose variety may vary according to the vintage, is reserved for the production of Bergerac rosé.
Satellite image of the Pécharmant parcel in Lembras4.5 hectares in Pécharmant, in the commune of Lembras, north of Bergerac, in a single block. We have a second vinification cellar right in the middle of the vines, enabling us to process the harvest very quickly. Facing due south on a gentle slope, the terroir is a veritable mosaic, with stony areas of rolled sandstone and flint, and other sandy clay areas, all on a base of white clay and "tran" (a ferruginous clay characteristic of Pécharmant terroirs). Planting density is 5,000 vines/hectare, with an average vine age of 19 years and a yield of 40 hectolitres/hectare. The grape varieties are 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. This part of the vineyard has been in conversion to organic farming since 2010, and we are carrying out very conclusive phytotherapy trials, which have enabled us to reduce the doses of copper and sulfur to a strict minimum (1.6 kg of copper metal/hectare in 2011).
3.5 hectares of Côtes de Bergerac moelleux in the commune of Mescoules, situated on a dry, arid plateau, the vines are on average 40 years old and naturally have low yields, enabling a good concentration of sugar and acidity. Planting density is 4,000 vines/hectare for an average yield of 50 hectolitres/hectare. The grape varieties are similar to those of Monbazillac, with 80% Semillon and 20% Muscadelle.
2 hectares on the Monbazillac terroir selected for dry white vinification. Planting density is 4,000 vines/hectare, with an average age of 54 years. Average yield is 50 hectoliters/hectare. The grape varieties are 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Muscadelle.
