Viognier was originally grown exclusively in the northern Côtes du Rhône, before becoming one of the most popular grape varieties in California. Today, this white grape stands out as much for its rarity as for the complexity of some of its aromas. Abroad, it is used in Italy, Spain, Greece, Switzerland and Austria. But it is above all one of the great American white grape varieties, mainly used in California. It is also very popular in Australia, where it accounts for 70% of the area planted to white grapes.
