The "les granits" cuvée owes its name to the granite dominance of its terroir. The slope and orientation facilitate both soil drainage and sunshine, and the grapes show remarkable ripeness year after year. A rich, full-bodied wine with a fine minerality, it's a perfect match for fish cooked with dill, beurre blanc or saffron. This 2011 has an exceptional golden yellow color. The nose is mineral, with floral notes of honeysuckle and lily that will no doubt evolve into honey. The palate is beautifully balanced, and this harmony is extended by a finely spiced finish. 100% marsanne. The oldest marsanne vines in the appellation. Best terroirs in Saint Joseph: steep granite slopes, south of the commune of Tournon. Aged 8-10 months, half in vats, half in oak demi-muids. Keeps for at least 20 years.

The appellation Saint-Joseph is part of the region of Vallée du Rhône from France which include Maison M. Chapoutier and its 169 cuvées. Spread over The Rhone Valley and its rich, complex terroirs. The region is divided into two distinct subregions: Northern Rhone (known as Rhône Septentrional) and Southern Rhone (Rhône Méridional). In the former we find strong wines in beautiful colours with warm, spicy notes, produced by vineyards that stretch 4,700 ha along the Rhone. The latter, with an area of 71,000 ha, is much more important, and this is evident of course in its annual production of red, rosé and white wines quite unlike those of the Northern Rhone., this region is 3 million hectolitres per year of red wines, rosés, dry and sparkling white wines, and natural sweet wine..
