The Armenier family has been present in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1344. In 1950, elie armenier took over the estate, cultivating 15 hectares of vines in châteauneuf du pape and selling his wine to wine merchants. Later, with his son, they created the domaine de marcoux brand. In 1988, sophie armenier joined the winegrowing family and, together, they decided to convert to organic viticulture, followed by biodynamic viticulture three years later. In 2005, catherine armenier joined her sister, and the two sisters expanded the family estate with a further ten hectares of vines, taking it to the top of the appellation. In 2015, sophie armenier's son joined the domaine de marcoux and now looks after the estate's vines. The terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape dates back to the Quaternary glaciations, when the Rhone migrated from east to west to reach its current position and form the high, wide terraces of the appellation. The alluvial material is Rhodanian cailloutis of Alpine origin, composed of various limestones, crystalline rocks and siliceous elements.
