Appellation Lirac

The AOC Lirac, a renowned appellation since the 18th century.

Located near Orange and Avignon, the existence of the Lirac appellation rests almost on one man: Count Henri de Régis de Gatimel. Indeed, in 1804, the Château de Ségriès was owned by the Count and his family. The estate was very modest at the time, and it was the Count who decided to develop and maintain it.

Located east of Châteauneuf du Pape, AOC Lirac is one of the southernmost appellations in the Rhone vineyards.

The grape varieties most present in the appellation are bergeron, carignan, cinsault, clairette, grenache, marsanne, mourvèdre, picpoul, roussanne, shiraz, syrah, ugni and finally viognier.

The vines of the AOC enjoy a Mediterranean climate where summers are hot, rainfall relatively rare and sunshine very strong.

The soils are predominantly limestone on the hillsides and the terraces are sandy with rolled pebbles.

The AOC Lirac: 3 colours to taste

AOC Lirac Red

This red wine, vinified in vats or oak barrels, has a deep ruby colour that can go as far as garnet red. The nose is on red fruits, then develops scents of leather, undergrowth, liquorice and notes of roasting with age. The palate reaches its peak after a few years, becoming full, round and measured in power.

The AOC Lirac Rouge will create a beautiful harmony with duck, duck or lamb.

AOC Lirac Rosé

The rosés of this AOC have the characteristics of so-called "vinous" rosé wines, i.e. they tend towards the specificities of red wines. Their colour is a soft pink. They develop scents of red fruit and almond. On the palate, they are quite nippy, bold and spicy.

They go very well with white meats, cooked tuna, pork or charcuterie.

AOC Lirac Blanc

AOC Lirac Blanc has a green yellow coat when young, then golden yellow with age. Its nose is floral, with vegetal scents. The palate is round and fresh with ripe fruit flavours.

This white wine will form a nice pairing with cod, prawns, but also with sweet and sour dishes.
