The winemaker

The Domaine de la Durbane has belonged to the Giornal-Wesch family since 1999. Initiated by Martine and Jean-Louis Giornal, the estate had a vineyard of 3.5 hectares in the Châteuneuf-du-Pape appellation and 3 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône appellation. Over time, driven by a passion for vines and wine, the Giornal-Wesch family has expanded its vineyard, which now covers 15 hectares. Since 2019, Florence, the youngest daughter of Martine and Jean-Louis, and her husband Thomas have taken over the reins of the estate. Both have a doctorate in chemistry and after a career in the pharmaceutical industry, they chose to turn to the vine and wine. The Durbane vineyard has always been run with respect for the environment and biodiversity. To take this approach further, Florence and Thomas undertook in 2020 to convert the vineyard to organic farming. They have a common goal in the making of their wine: "To improve their understanding of the terroir and the physiology of the vine in order to gain precision on the wines."
