The key to this wine is its balance. You may love CdP and Barossa Shiraz, as I do, but they are not for everyone, everyday, and too many 'villages' and lesser Rhones have too much extract and too much alcohol both for my palate and for anything I might wish to eat with them. This does not, without giving up anything in fruit and terroir flavour or lacking the heft to go with food. I remember the splendid wines this domaine turned out in the 1970s and 1980s and this is very reminiscent of them. They were good then and they aged very well - a 1984 in 2021 was still very good drinking. Drink this now or, if you are patient, I think it will improve steadily and for a long time. It is an excellent simpler wine, and at a very good price. Scoring it as a simpler wine, I would give it five stars. But if 5 stars are for Rayas or Romanee-Conti, this is still 3 1/2.
