The winemaker

The Domaine Tourbillon, a family history

The history of Domaine Tourbillon is a recent one, as it begins in the middle of the 20th century. The grandparents of Benjamin Tourbillon, the current owner, were wine growers in Gigondas. This exceptional terroir in the south of France benefits from the sun, along with the influences of the Mediterranean and produces wines of character.

Today, Benjamin has taken up the family torch. Attached to the tradition, he makes the vineyard prosper and enlarges the cellar to diversify and vinify his own wines.

The Domaine Tourbillon vineyard

Domaine Tourbillon is located in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, with parcels facing the famous château, lieu-dit "Grand Devès". This pebble soil stores the sun's heat to diffuse it at night and avoid the vines from too great a temperature difference.

The slopes are exposed to the southwest. The soil is clay-limestone and arid, which forces the roots to go deep to find nutrients and concentrate their aromas.

Another part of Domaine Tourbillon extends to Gigondas, below the village overlooked by the Dentelles de Montmirail. The clay-rich soils produce very complex wines. The vines are beaten by the mistral wind which cleans and dries the berries which develop powerful flavors. Finally, Domaine Tourbillon farms plots in the Côtes-du-Rhône, on a clay-limestone and gravelly soil, very sunny.

The grape varieties of Domaine Tourbillon

Domaine Tourbillon exploits very diverse grape varieties that allow for rich and original blends :

-Black Grenache for greed, generosity and roundness
-Syrah for its diversity of aromas and to sublimate the colors of the wines
-Mourvèdre which gives so much personality to the full-bodied and structured wine
-Cinsault for its pronounced aromas of red fruits, dried fruits and white flowers
-Carignan noir for the tannic structure
-White Grenache, full-bodied and low in acidity, which gives its length to the mouth
-Clairette for its aromas of fennel, apple, lime, apricot and peach
-Roussanne for finesse and delicacy
-Muscardin for its floral bouquet and pleasant freshness
