The winemaker

The history of Domaine Pique-Basse goes back to Olivier Tropet's grandparents and great-grandparents, who were already cultivating vines and fruit trees at the turn of the century. The name Pique-Basse, inspired by the locality "piquebas", is thought to mean "podium which is low". Some of the plots around the winery are elevated, but are still part of the Roaix plain. The estate comprises some ten hectares of vines located around the property, then mainly in Rasteau and on the Roaix hillsides. The wines are produced in the Roaix Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation, in red, white and rosé, and in the Rasteau red appellation. Since 2009, the vines have been converted to organic farming, with both vineyard and vinification certified by Ecocert. Driven by his passion for the land, Olivier Tropet spent almost 10 years converting his estate before obtaining certification. With simplicity and humility, he respects his estate, his vines and his history: his vines are now cultivated naturally, without chemical intrans, and harvested by hand.
