The winemaker

Domaine Pélaquié is a family-owned property located in the south of the Rhône Valley in the Gard department. The quality red and white wines reflect to perfection the terroir of the right bank of the Rhone so little known by the general public. The variety of terroirs found there has found in the Pélaquié family true craftsmen who reveal all their potential through their cuvées.

The rich history of the Pélaquié family in the Gard vineyards

The Pélaquié family is a great family of the region since it has been established there since the 16th century. From this distant century, it began to cultivate the vine on the current lands of the family exploitation. Thus, from the beginning of the 20th century, the wines of Laudun vinified by the Pélaquié family were already distributed internationally, for example in Djibouti. Today, Luc Pélaquié is at the head of the estate, which he manages with a masterful hand. Since 1976, the year in which he succeeded his grandfather, Luc has continued his family's quest for excellence.

To do so, he has carried out major work on the estate, modernizing the production tool while preserving the heritage passed down from generation to generation. He has at heart to produce high quality wines and puts in all his love for his heritage and all his respect for his land. The Domaine Pélaquié is now completely autonomous and manages its operations from vineyard management to bottling and marketing.

Three appellations, a multitude of terroirs

Domaine Pélaquié vinifies several vintages from three different appellations: AOP Laudun, AOP Lirac and AOP Tavel. Each one has its own specificities. The vines of the AOP Laudun, located on small hillsides, grow on soils of sand and fossilized sediments. A wide variety of grape varieties flourish there: grenache, cinsault, syrah, mourvèdre, carignan, clairette, viognier, marsanne ... Luc Pélaquié's know-how orders this diversity in order to make beautiful wines, a reflection of their rich terroir.

The Lirac PDO, spread over the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, benefits from a soil of rolled pebbles that store the heat of the day to give it back to the vines during the night. The resulting reds are then rich wines with aromas of black fruits and spices. Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Syrah come together to create a most expressive nectar.

Finally, the soils of Tavel, strong in clay, offer the wine its salmon pink reflections with notes of red fruits. These three appellations enjoy a Mediterranean climate that is largely sunny and refreshed by the Mistral wind, which fills the grapes with pronounced flavors that can be found in Luc Pélaquié's vintages.

Luc Pélaquié vintages

The estate produces a variety of vintages, most of which are stamped with the Domaine Pélaquié label. However, some are an exception and are adorned with the inscription "Luc Pélaquié". These are very special vintages because they come from the oldest vines of the estate. The plot selection that is practiced, as well as the low yields and the meticulous work done during the maturation, guarantee to the wines their authenticity and their great quality which classify them among the great wines of the above mentioned appellations. Their finesse and elegance will delight the palate of wine lovers who will recognize the notes linked to the maturation in oak barrels and on lees.
