The winemaker

The history of Domaine les Bruyères

Domaine les Bruyères is a family-run business, now run by the fifth generation of Reynauds. The estate was run from the end of the Second World War until the late 1980s by Marceline Reynaud and her husband, Georges. It was then taken over by David, Marceline's son and Georges' son-in-law.
Since 2000, David Reynaud has been committed to organic and biodynamic farming. He puts all his heart into producing quality wines. Versatile, he works in the vineyards as well as in the winery, constantly reinventing his blends to satisfy his customers' taste buds.

The Domaine les Bruyères vineyard

Domaine les Bruyères covers more than 27 hectares of vines, on land belonging to the Crozes Hermitage appellation. The soil is composed of clay-limestone terraces. The pebbles that make up the subsoil provide ideal drainage for the soil.
The main grape variety of the Crozes Hermitage PDO is Syrah, which occupies 87% of the land at Domaine les Bruyères. It is complemented by plantings of Merlot and Persan, which are used to make red wines, and, for white wines, by Mondeuse blanche, Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne. A few Grenache vines are used to make rosé wine.
Domaine les Bruyères is certified in agriculture biologique et biodynamique. All tasks are carried out by hand: disbudding, lifting, removal of internodes, harvesting, table sorting, etc. Biodynamics takes into account nature's rhythm and astral influences. The soil and vines are treated with plant preparations. These include cow dung, chamomile and oak bark. Copper and sulfur are tolerated, but only in homeopathic doses.
Underground cellars allow grapes to be poured from above, taking advantage of gravity.
