The winemaker

The history of the estate 1948 Pascal Lafond's maternal grandfather, Valéry Taulier, built the first private winery in Tavel. As a wine merchant, he contributed enormously to the development of the Tavel appellation, creating close economic ties with the Burgundy wine trade and major Swiss importers. 1970 Jean-Pierre Lafond, Valéry Taulier's son-in-law, decides to create the current winery. A horse enthusiast, he took the name of a famous Roquepine trotter and changed the spelling to give it a Provençal touch. Thus was born Domaine Lafond Roc-Epine. 1978 Jean-Pierre Lafond's son Pascal joins the domaine, and together they decide to market the estate's bottled wines. (Tavel, Lirac and Côtes du Rhône). 2001 Jean-Pierre and Pascal cross the Rhône! The Domaine expands into the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, with the purchase of an 87-acre vineyard... That's 4,000 bottles, only. 2009 The decision is made! We convert the entire estate to organic farming. What is organic farming? We give up using pesticides, herbicides and other synthetic products. All that's left to protect the vines are the only elements found in nature, i.e. sulfur and copper. The only treatments permitted are contact products that can be washed off by rain and do not penetrate the plant. 2012 After 3 years of conversion, the estate has gone over to organic farming!
