The winemaker

The History of Domaine Gangloff

The first vines of Domaine Gangloff were planted by Mathilde and Yves Gangloff, in 1984. The creation of the vineyard owes much to chance. Indeed, Yves was originally from Alsace and came to settle next to Condrieu in the 1970s. At the time, he was more interested in rock music and guitar, but he visited his brother Pierre, a painter. The latter introduced him to a wine grower who needed an urgent hand.

At the same time, Yves met Mathilde, a native of the Vienne region, who came from a family of cloth manufacturers. To earn a living, Yves became a farm worker and learned the trade of winegrower in the field, on the steep slopes of Condrieu and Côte Rôtie.

Gaston André, a local winegrower, gave the young couple a few vines and this is how the story of Domaine Gangloff began. A majority of the harvest is processed by the neighboring Guigal house, while the couple tries their hand at winemaking with the rest of the grapes.

In 1992, the decision was made to take over the entire winemaking and bottling process. The success is almost immediate and the Domaine Gangloff wines become a reference for Condrieu and Côte Rôtie lovers.

After Mathilde's death in 2011, Yves continues the adventure, now supported by his daughter Elsa.

The Domaine Gangloff vineyard

The Domaine Gangloff vineyard has gradually expanded to 9 hectares of granite and schist soil. Yves Gangloff continues to pursue the objective he and Mathilde set for themselves of never sacrificing quality, and to do so, maintaining a traditional pruning. The vineyard parcels of Domaine Gangloff are in the appellations of Condrieu, Côte Rôtie and, more recently, in Saint Joseph.

The work in the vineyards, as well as the winemaking, respects a very artisanal approach to wine making. The grapes are harvested by hand.
