(19 customer reviews)
Located in Courthézon, Vaucluse, Domaine de la Janasse is a 90-hectare vineyard in the Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf du Pape appellations. The estate is not a single block, but is made up of parcels carefully chosen for the quality of their soils, microclimates and exposure. La Janasse has thus been able to plant each grape variety on land suited to its specificity. Find out more

The winemaker

The producer

Domaine de la Janasse is a family estate founded in 1973. It is still managed by its founder Aimé Sabon, along with his wife, daughter, son and daughter-in-law. Starting with the 15 hectares of vines handed down by his father and father-in-law in 1967, Aimé chose not to sell his grapes to the cooperative or his wine to the négociant.

He produced and sold his own cuvées, enhanced the value of his land with the acquisition of new, carefully selected plots and developed his own winery.

With the support of his son Christophe, trained in viticulture, oenology and commerce, and his graduate oenologist daughter, he has succeeded in making La Janasse one of Châteauneuf du Pape's emblematic estates.

Domaine de la Janasse philosophy

The Sabon family is deeply attached to its terroir and has put in place practices that respect the environment, with rigorous work conducted in integrated agriculture and marketing adapted to the production of wines of excellence.

The work on the land is organized to favor the expression of the terroir and the quality of the grapes. Any intervention on the soil or vines is decided on the basis of meticulous observation of the vineyard's development and analysis of the needs of each plot.

The mosaic-like configuration of the Janasse terroirs results in complex blends and enables the production of singular cuvées such as Les Garrigues, Terre de Bussières and Terre d'Argile.

Three complementary grape varieties make up the bulk of the estate's vines: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. However, all 13 grape varieties of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation are grown on the estate. In fact, since 2010, the team has been planting secondary grape varieties to promote greater diversity in La Janasse wines.

The wines

The garrigues

This is a powerful wine in the Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation, made exclusively from Grenache. The cuvée reveals all the quality of an exceptional terroir, with aromas of strawberries and blackberries.

Châteauneuf du Pape domaine La Janasse Tradition

This is a red wine produced from a blend of Vieux Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. It is made from several terroirs on the Crau plateau and in the northern part of the Appellation. The cuvée is balanced and full-bodied, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and violet.

The Châteauneuf du Pape domaine de la Janasse Vieilles Vignes

This is the estate's flagship cuvée, enjoying international recognition. It's a fine, elegant wine, with a dark red color and aromas of garrigue and crushed black fruits.

Le Châteauneuf du Pape Prestige

This is a fresh white wine made from a blend of Roussanne and old Grenache and Clairette vines. It's a rare cuvée, but much appreciated by connoisseurs for its power and balance. It offers notes of vanilla, citrus, peach and pear.

Le Domaine de la Janasse, terre de Bussière

This is an IGP wine from the Principality of Orange made from Merlot, Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet. The cuvée is gourmand, with notes of leather and black fruit.
