Located on the hillsides in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Durban estate seems to be a piece of paradise where the land is cultivated as if it were a heritage. It is a love of nature and its fruits that allows the Leydier family to produce Muscat à petits grains blancs of a consistent quality and a pleasantly fresh and fruity taste. Find out more

The winemaker

The Producer

Located at the epicenter of the Dentelles de Montmirail (Rhone Valley), accessing the Durban estate gives us the intimate feeling of being close to the gods. It is in this almost paradisiacal environment that the Leydier family works every day to produce its different crus.

The estate holds more than 50 hectares of plots of land including 30 hectares of AOP Cru Beaumes de Venise Rouge, 20 hectares of AOP Muscat Beaumes de Venis and 6 hectares of AOP Cru Gigondas. But today, we are particularly interested in the Muscat à petits grains blancs grape variety, which seems to have found its favorite land in the plots of the Durban estate.

The Commitments

The philosophy of the Durban estate vineyards is to harvest as in the past. The harvest is done by hand so that the grapes are not damaged, and the sorting is done at the foot of the vine to remove damaged or overgrown grapes. After being de-stemmed and macerated in a tank to deliver its nectar, the wine is transferred to a stainless steel tank for aging while controlling temperatures.

The estate is also and above all a family business! It is the third generation of the Leydier family, the two brothers Henri and Philippe who manage the cellar and the administration (Gaëtan, Henri's son, is also an up-and-coming winemaker.

The terroir

Positioned on a soil composed of 40% Trias and 60% Clay-limestone, the Durban estate obtains wines as rich as they are complex. A hillside vineyard, it benefits from a very sunny exposure and a micro-climate that allows it to produce vintages of a rather regular quality every year.

The composition of the soils provides the ideal conditions for the production of a very regular white Muscat à petits grains, resulting in a fruity white wine that is very pleasant to taste.

The Wine

The Muscat-de-Beaumes-de-Venise is a white wine made from 100% white muscat à petits grains. Its character is fine and elegant, and offers aromas of peach, apricot and lychee on the nose. Enjoy it as an aperitif, with foie gras for example, between 8° and 10°.
