The history of Domaine Brusset

Domaine Brusset was founded by André Brusset in 1947, when he decided to leave the local cooperative to develop his own wine production. He began with his own 7-hectare vineyard, but worked steadily to expand. By 1997, two years before André's (1910-1999) death, Domaine Brusset had grown to 47 hectares. Today, the vineyard covers 70 hectares.

André Brusset has also modernized his business over the years. He passed on his know-how and a high-performance estate to his son, Daniel, and grandson, Laurent.

Laurent represents the third generation to look after Domaine Brusset. He has recently invested in modernizing the winery, to facilitate work in the cellar.

The Domaine Brusset vineyard

The Domaine Brusset vineyard extends over 70 hectares, in the heart of the southern Côtes du Rhône vineyards, in Cairanne.

The vines are predominantly red, covering around 90% of the vineyard. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

Red grape varieties are Grenache (55%), Syrah (20%), Mourvèdre (15%), Carignan (5%) and Cinsault (5%). White grape varieties are Grenache (40%), Roussanne (30%) and Viognier (30%).

Domaine Brusset produces wines from 5 appellations - Gigondas, Cairanne, Rasteau, Côtes du Rhône and Ventoux - which share diverse soils, including:
- stony-clay beneath the great Jurassic limestone bar of the Dentelles de Montmirail;
- clay-limestone on the terraces of the great Jurassic limestone bar of the Dentelles de Montmirail ;
- very stony terraces, composed of alluvium and molasse, facing south;
- clay soils ;
- clay-limestone slopes in alluvial terraces, rich in rolled pebbles.
