The combier family's roots in the Rhone Valley go back to 1936: laurent's grandfather camille came down from the ardéchois plateau and bought a property in la roche de glun with 3 hectares of vines and 4 hectares of apricot trees. In the 1960s, Maurice and Paulette set up farming in the neighboring commune of Pont de l'Isère. In 1970, a difficult economic period for viticulture, they invested heavily in arboriculture. Since they were more interested in growing grapes than in making wine, they joined the Cave Coopérative de Tain l'Hermitage, which they left in 1989. At that time, the estate comprised 5ha of vines, including a plot planted in 1952, the future Clos des Grives in 1990, and 15ha of peach and apricot trees. At the end of the 60s, Maurice combier suffered an allergy to a phytosanitary product. It was an anecdote that would shape his future life as a farmer. He asked himself questions, and one day heard talk of "living soil". In the winter of 1969-1970, he took the plunge and converted the property to organic farming, then in its infancy.
