Condrieu's vocation as a winegrower dates back to Roman times. As early as the 15th century, Condrieu wine was so highly regarded that it was offered to noble personalities and graced celebrations. Condrieu was granted A.O.C Locale status in 1940, and Viognier, a grape variety that remained local until the end of the 19th century, is now acclaimed the world over.
