Clos Du Mont-olivet
(14 customer reviews)
Clos du Mont-Olivet was created in 1932 by Séraphin Sabon in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Old documents establish the presence of vines on these lands as early as 1547.
The family estate was then managed by his son Joseph. Today it is managed by Joseph's three grandchildren, Céline, Thierry and David. Find out more

A wide variety of terroirs
The Clos Mont-Olivet estate is a tribute to diversity, spanning four appellations in the South of France with 21 hectares in AOC Châteauneuf du Pape, 14 hectares in the Lirac appellation, 10 in Côtes du Rhône and 3 in Vin de Pays du Gard. The parcels are very fragmented, particularly in the Châteauneuf du Pape area, and this splitting up of the estate finally gives a great variety of soils, climates and exposures. Each grape variety can thus find favorable conditions that suit it and the same grape variety can express itself very differently from one plot to another.
The estate is planted with red grape varieties typical of the Mediterranean area, with a majority of Grenache, complemented by Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and to a lesser extent Vaccarèse, Counoise, Muscardin, Terret Noir and Picpoul Noir. The white grape varieties are also varied, we find mainly Roussanne and Bourboulenc, but also Picardan, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc.
The skills
The estate applies integrated farming methods, with plowing in the vine rows and harvesting done in crates. Seasonal work is decided based on careful observation of the vineyard and according to the weather.
The producer strives to express both the great diversity of grape varieties and typical Mediterranean terroirs in the elaboration of his wines, but giving them elegance and purity. All stages of production are thus adapted to the specificities of each harvest and to the evolution of the fermentation of each vintage.
The wines
The estate offers a wide range of wines with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes du Rhône, Lirac, IGP Gard and Vins de France.
The Cuvée du Papet is the flagship wine of Clos du Mont-Olivet. The first cuvée dates back to 1989 and is only made in great vintages, from a blend of very old Grenache, some of which are over 120 years old, and Syrah or Mourvèdre depending on the year. It is an elegant and fresh wine with a nice length in the mouth.
The Clos du Mont-Olivet red is the historic cuvée of the property. It is a deep wine that perfectly expresses the characteristics of its terroir, a typical Châteauneuf du Pape, made from very old Grenache vines in majority, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault.
Lirac Rosé is a cuvée made from a blend of 90% Mourvèdre and Grenache. It is a gourmet and fine wine with a lot of freshness and balance. It has a nice aromatic intensity with flavors of garrigue, raspberry, blackberry and peppery notes.
Le Clos also offers a Côte du Rhône Blanc made primarily from Grenache Blanc, with a small complement of Uni Blanc. The estate has thus produced a balanced and elegant wine with well-controlled acidity. The nose is fruity, with citrus and fresh fruit dominating.
