The winemaker
The history of Château Gigognan in Châteauneuf du Pape
In the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, ten minutes from Châteauneuf du Pape, Château Gigognan is heir to a history firmly rooted in our winegrowing heritage. Without denying the traditions and know-how it has inherited, Château Gigognan is undergoing a veritable since 2018. It is being renovated from top to bottom, with the aim of producing wines even more in line with the estate's goal of excellence.
Chateau Gigognan vineyard features
Producing wines from iconic appellations known the world over, Château Gigognan expresses itself over 110 hectares: 40 hectares in AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape (one of the most renowned vineyards in the Rhône Valley), 35 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Signargues and 35 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône Villages and Côtes-du-Rhône. The vines are mainly planted with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Roussanne and Viognier. In recent years, part of the vineyard (30 hectares) has been replanted, while retaining the old vines in order to develop wines with a certain aromatic complexity.
. The entire vineyard, which respects the natural rhythms of the terroir, has been farmed organically for many years. To respect nature's life cycle, the estate favors a balanced ecosystem, allowing the vineyard to develop its own natural defenses. As part of this respect for the environment, Château Gigognan is gradually integrating small touches of biodynamic agriculture to give the best to the vines and the land.
Chateau Gigognan winemaking
The grapes are harvested at full ripeness so that the wines enjoy optimum richness and concentration. All stages of the winemaking process are carried out in close collaboration with the winemaker, and with the highest standards of quality in mind. Without abandoning tradition, the estate has gradually adapted to the latest technical advances in oenology, with the help of an expert team. The result of technical, environmental and aesthetic reflection, our new winery now boasts the very best equipment.
