The winemaker
On a hilly land located on both sides of the Drôme Valley, the 40 hectares of Carod Caves are clinging to the hillsides. The vineyards stretch for marl and clay-limestone subsoil. Under the combined influence of climate Hauts du Vercors plateau (peaks over 2,000 meters), and the Drôme Provençale, the vineyard benefits from cool nights and sunny days. The seasons are well defined: hot summers, cold winters and often snowy. It was in 1940 that Paul Barnier and Amade Carod, his son, produce and market their first bottles of Clairette de Die. Twenty years later, the eldest son of Amade, Alain, joined the family business and bought a few hectares of vines. He in turn is joined by his brother Marcel, and together they will expand the vineyard and the sale of their product. In 2008, Alain and Marcel Carod decide to sell their business to Grands Chais de France. For over fifty years, the property Carod has developed gradually, adapting its premises and acquiring high-tech tools. All warehouses are thermo, and the winery has three separate bottling lines. On the other hand, Carod Caves are certified by ECOCERT for the processing and preparation of grapes from organic farming. Carod The cellar has several rooms dedicated to Clairette and local traditions of the early century, a panoramic view of the cellars and a projected ten minutes on the vineyard and producing Clairette de Die.
